His guidance helps NovaFir strengthen its positioning across hydro, wind, and broader renewable energy markets while identifying potential relationships with developers, operators, utilities, municipalities, and commercial organizations.

Javier is the founder of Hysovent, an independent sustainable engineering company focused on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and decarbonization.

Dr. Asad holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia. He chairs the IEEE Canadian Atlantic Section and serves as Associate Editor for the IEEE Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers with over 1,000 citations.

He provides technical insight related to smart-grid architecture, power systems, distributed energy resources, and renewable energy integration — helping NovaFir evaluate how its technologies operate within modern grid-aware and hybrid-energy environments.

Dr. Farooq earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University in 2017, with more than 15 years of teaching experience. His research interests span fuzzy logic, neural networks, and feedback control systems and their applications.

He contributes expertise in control systems, smart-grid technologies, and renewable energy optimization — supporting NovaFir’s work in advanced control, system coordination, and intelligent operation across distributed energy and microgrid applications.

Dr. Aly (Senior Member, IEEE) is an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University and founder of the Smart Grid and Green Power Research Laboratory. He has authored a textbook, three book chapters, and more than 100 refereed journal and conference papers, pioneering computational and artificial-intelligence solutions for the economic and environmental operation of power systems.

His guidance spans power-system dynamics and stability, power electronics, applications of artificial intelligence in power systems, smart grids, and the integration of renewable energy into the main grid.

Dr. Jason Gu

Dr. Gu holds a B.Eng. from the University of Science and Technology of China, an M.A.Sc. in biomedical and instrumentation engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University, and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Alberta. He is a Principal Investigator whose work spans intelligent control systems, robotics, marine and underwater engineering, and sensor-driven monitoring — including projects on renewable-energy integration, DC microgrids, and electric-vessel conversion.

He contributes technical knowledge supporting NovaFir’s research, platform development, and validation activities across smart-grid, control, and renewable energy applications.
